All Things Are Possible

As a mother of a teenage boy with Aspergers' Syndrome and many other disabilities I can say that it has been a journey.  Andrew is a child who loves words and the rhythm of sounds.  His repetitive behaviors and stimulatory behaviors may become disruptive at times, however, finding a connection and tapping into the "Autism World " is something that my husband and I have tried to do for so long.

Andrew watched as I wrote my personal stories in poetic format and told me that he too wanted to write his own book.  I told him that all things are possible for those who believe...Do you believe Andrew? "Yes!", he replied and before I knew it Andrew produced a wonderful touching story called Jonathan the Elephant.

It is important to note that Andrew learned a valuable lesson in writing his book.  Andrew learned that even though he has many limitations that may hinder his learning, he has also learned that if he tries hard enough he can overcome all obstacles.

Andrew has learned that he has the power to make his dreams come true.

Nourishing Our Gifts

Many times we wait for special occassions to give gifts.  We watch our loved ones open them and look at their faces for feedback.  Many times we see smiles, or hear laughter, but many times we are left with doubt.  For example,  when you notice that the person who opened the gift does not like the gift, but is being polite.

My son has taught me to not wait for special ocassions to open or give gifts.  He has taught me to cherish every moment where I see miracles unfold.  It might be that day when he actually laughs at a joke, because he actually gets it.  It might be that moment when he looks at me.  It might be that moment when he grabs my hand and takes me into his room and speaks to me about his ideas.

Nourishing Andrew's gift of writing has allowed me to see not only his world, but my world as well.  Andrew with the help of his cousin and I was able to make a second book Can Annabelle Learn How to Respect?

Nourishing Andrew's gift is not easy.  It can get intense, stressful, overbearing, but at the end it is so rewarding.  Nourishing his gift has resulted in many conversations.  I have to say that the more Andrew is allow to practice and the more encouragement he receives his writing gets better as well as his books.

If you would like to Purchase Andrew's second book you can at blurb.com.
